Principles of Ayurveda

Ayurveda consists of two words ‘Ayu’ and ‘Veda’ which means knowledge of life. It is the traditional science of treatment of some diseases at the roots level. It is eco-friendly treatment to ensure health and happiness of society at large.

The divine environs and calm climate of Rishikesh is a major reason to pick-up this place for yoga practice. A 15-day Yoga & Ayurveda course is a unique concept which blends Yoga & Ayurveda for holistic healthcare with spiritual experience.

Yoga is not only a philosophy, but a part of Indian lifestyle. Ayurveda is fast emerging on the international arena for holistic healthcare which works with the basic elements of fire, water, earth, wind and ether.

Identification of Three Doshas

The three doshas occur due to the imbalances in the body from the five eternal elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) from the food we intake and our lifestyle also affects it.

  • Vata : dry, cold, light, mobile, rough, subtle
  • Pitta : slightly oily, hot, intense, light, fluid, foul smelling.
  • Kapha : oily, cold, heavy, stable, viscid, smooth, soft

Abhyangam

It is a vital part of Panchakarma with application of oil all over the body. In simple words, it is body massage with designed strokes and right pressure. The massage performed over a special wooden table by well-trained masseurs. There are seven different postures which help to soothes joints and muscles and also improve the blood circulation. Vata doshas are calmed down which brings luster to the dull skin. It does improve physical beauty and complexion.

Shirodhara

‘Shiro’ means head and ‘dhara’ means flow. The special warm oil is gently poured on the forehead to calm down doshas (defects) which helps to control the mind and gives you soothing relaxation. It removes fatigue, improves memory and induces good sleep, cures insomnia and has a beneficial effect for high BP practitioners.

Patrapotali

It means bundle of leaf. The special herbal leaves along with medicinal powders are mixed in certain proportion to make bolus. Here, the leaves are generally chopped and later bundle together for the treatment of osteoarthritis, arthritis, spondylitis, injuries, pains and related diseases. It strengthens the joints in a most natural way with no side-effects.

Nasya

It is the ayurvedic treatment through applying of oils via nose. This treatment loosen and relieves the adhesive dooshas. Here, the herbal oils, ayurvedic juices are injected into the nose canal for the treatment of disorders in ear, nose and throat (ENT). Pradhanakarma is therapy which includes instillation of lukewarm medication in both the nostrils. It doesn’t have any side-effects if done under experienced therapist.

Udvartan

It means ‘ubtan’ with apply of specially extracted herbal. Herbal paste is applied with gentle massage which improves the circulation of your body by relaxation of your satisfaction. It steadily enhances the speed of metabolism and can nullify the high cholesterol due to hectic lifestyle. If done along with abhyangam and basti, udvartan can reduce the obesity and bring you back in alluring shape of teenage.

Basti

It is the most efficient treatment of vata (air & space) dosha (disorders) and is counted as one of the vital applying method of panchakarma. It goes into the root cause of the problem to eliminate faeces, bile, excreta and bile problems by bowel cleansing. This treatment involves medicated oil or decoction which is applied into the colon through anus. It removes the toxins and nourishes the colon. It gives you young look by enhancing agility and vigor in your body.

Facepack and Mask

Ayurvedic facepack is an answer to your dull and blemished skin. The ayurvedic mask peels off the dead skin of your face and body to instill confidence of better look. Facepack comprises of natural herbs, fruits and vegetable extracts as it soothes and cool the face care, skin and hair in a eco-friendly way.

Pizchil

This royal-cum-traditional ayurvedic treatment based on oil bath and heat therapy is to cure Vata (air & space) dosha. This holistic massage balances all the elements in the skin by enhancing blood circulation and makes you feel light and energetic. It also checks the cholesterol level to some extent. It is an amalgamation of dual Ayurvedic treatments namely Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (sudation).

Netra Tarpan

‘Netra’ means eye and ‘Tarpan’ means vigor. This eye cleansing therapy with the help of dough ensures sparking and healthy eyes. It is the treatment for weak eye-sight by traditional therapy method. The clarified butter (ghee) works wonder with eyes for healthy vision. It is beneficial in ailing burning sensation, blurred vision. It also enhances the moisture and lubrication of eyes, thus enhancing sparkle of eyes.

Karna Purana

It is an effective Ayurvedic therapy for ear where lukewarm therapeutic oil is dripped into ear by using dropper. Then, ear is gently massaged to nullify vata disorders and also to remove accumulated waste products. It is effective treatment for headaches and insomnia which is related to ear disorders. It also prevents neck stiffness.

Kati Tarpan

The warm herbal oil is applied on back including spine for few minutes to pacify all the back problems. It also reduces back strain and stiffness by promoting circulation of blood in all parts of the back and neck. Kati Tarpan is antidote for slipped or degenerated lumbar disc and painful lower back.

Note : If there is any alteration in the scheduled programme, the trainee students will be informed one day ahead.

Inclusions:

Accommodation and meals are included in the course fee for the entire duration of the training course. Accommodation has options of twin and single person occupancy with amenities like attached toilets, hot and cold water, Reverse Osmosis drinking water, etc. Meals include Early Morning Tea/snacks, Breakfast Lunch Evening Tea/snacks and Dinner. Our courses will be held at Rishikesh.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of US $400.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
  • US $200 refund for cancellation 60+ days before the event.
  • $0 deposit refund for cancellation 0-29 days before event.
  • Postponement of course attendance will also entail a fine of US $100.
  • If any applicant leaves after the commencement of the course but before its completion no amount will be refunded. However the participant will be provided a waiver of 40% for course fee in case he wishes to re-register at a later date within a period of two months.
  • SYF reserves the right to expel any student from the course at any time on grounds of misconduct or inappropriate behaviour, disrespecting the prescribed culture and guidelines by SYF.
  • SPF reserves the right to cancel / call off the course or workshop at any time owing to any exigency prior to commencement of the course. In such case any amount paid by the applicant as registration / course fee will be refunded.
